New Delhi, Nov 3: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar welcomed Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Alzayani in New Delhi on Monday, expressing optimism for fruitful discussions during the 5th India-Bahrain High Joint Commission meeting.
In a post on X, Jaishankar stated, “Pleased to welcome FM Abdullatif bin Rashid Alzayani of Bahrain to New Delhi. Look forward to productive discussions of the 5th India-Bahrain High Joint Commission.”
Alzayani arrived in India on Sunday to co-chair the meeting, which aims to enhance the bilateral relationship between the two countries.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced the visit on social media, highlighting its significance in reviewing cooperation across various sectors.
MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal tweeted, “Warm welcome to FM Abdullatif bin Rashid Alzayani of the Kingdom of Bahrain. He will be co-chairing the 5th India-Bahrain High Joint Commission meeting with EAM S Jaishankar. This visit offers an opportunity to build on the positive momentum in India-Bahrain relations.”
The High Joint Commission (HJC) acts as a crucial institutional framework for enhancing and assessing the diverse partnership between India and Bahrain.
This latest meeting is anticipated to evaluate the progress in current cooperative areas and identify new opportunities in trade, investment, fintech, energy, health, education, and cultural exchanges.
India and Bahrain have a rich history of ties, with diplomatic relations established in 1971.
A significant Indian community resides in Bahrain, playing a vital role in the kingdom’s economy. Official data indicates that bilateral trade encompasses sectors such as petroleum products, machinery, electronics, and food items.
In recent years, trade and investment have become essential components of the partnership, with growth driven by sectors like petroleum, machinery, electronics, iron and steel, and food.
Both nations are also looking to enhance collaboration in renewable energy, digital technologies, and start-ups, with high-level visits further strengthening their relationship.
